Lace De Bridge | Lost Boy
[Content Warning: Gunshot/Violence]
When it comes to spirituality, it is important that one is prepared to face both sides of the story. The light and the shadow. There is a darkness that is represented both aesthetically and sonically in Lace De Bridge’s follow up to ‘In All The Beauty’, Lost Boy.
I’m going to be honest, I’m gun-shy and violence-avoidant, so I could feel the tension in my body as I watched the thrilling scene that features a restrained Lace De Bridge escalate to its peak. Then, that is where everything changes.
A voice-over with subtitles transports us instantly to the place inside the mind, where the interior monologue of Lace De Bridge lives. This is where we come to understand that what looks like a threatening scene is actually symbolic of the ultimate freedom.
“I believed it
I thought it was a cage in front of me
You told me that
Everyone told me that
It wasn’t true
It was all a lie
All that fear
All that suffering was a joke
My death was a gift”

Lace De Bridge tells us that this is the story of a Lost Boy who has forgotten his own story. He has forgotten his origins, and forgotten that the ancestors who came before him are the very essence of his life force; the blood that runs through his veins, not a stain.
Lost Boy deals with the many faces of identity and spirituality. They are expressed visually in a number of ways throughout, most notably the psychedelic and hypnotic kaleidoscopic lens that is a memorable focal point of this work. Working with Bruce Gil, Lace De Bridge introduces us to the visual side of his music with Lost Boy.
Musically, Lost Boy takes us beyond where In All The Beauty dared to go. We learn from both singles that this is an artist who has been on a journey to the inner depths and from there creates art that can inspire others to dive deep and go where we can all go if we dare. Beyond fear, breaking free from the invisible cage… despite what we’ve been told. Despite our pain and suffering. Despite life or death and the difference between them.
From here, we can’t wait to explore more with Lace De Bridge as our guide. We are watching and waiting for the rest of this EP which is sure to be just as gripping as this introduction to this visionary artist. This is one bridge we will be crossing regularly. For the latest news, watch this space.
LOST BOY LYRICS
lost boy, you will know my name
lost boy, you will know my name
maybe no one told you
maybe you forgot
I’m the origin of your story
buried under the mud
in the name of your fathers
in the stream of your blood
(it’s) the foundation of your pride
not some stain to wash off
and you don’t have a taste no more
just like a ghost
you’re lost boy (you don’t know where you’re going)
lost boy (cause you don’t know where you belong)
lost boy, you will know my name
lost boy, you will know my name
don’t know where you’re going, you don’t know where you belong
don’t know where you’re going, you don’t know where you belong
lost boy, you will know my name
lost boy, you will know my name
don’t know where you’re going, you don’t know where you belong
can you feel the chains clink?
Pulling tight on your neck
You disown your own story
Now she’s back for revenge
You won’t be like the others
Your salvation is within
like the avenger of your glory
Screaming out to be unleashed
and I’ve been with you all the way
since you were gone
you’re lost boy, you don’t know where you’re going
lost boy, cause you don’t know where you belong
maybe no one told you
maybe you forgot
I’m the origin of your story
buried under the mud
